IANCURA is a one-month research-oriented residency program led by Elettra Bottazzi and Marta Bandini. During this month, amaneï will serve as the home base while the Aeolian Islands become the focal point for exploration, inquiry, and interaction with local communities by four international: Maria Trabulo (Portugal), Mia Tamme (Estonia), Valeria Moro (Italy/Netherlands), and Derek MF Di Fabio (Italy/Germany).

The name of the project, Iancura, originates from a weather phenomenon known in the Aeolian dialect, representing a moment when sea and sky merge, creating a still, white, misty landscape. Just as "Iancura" symbolizes a temporary suspension, untold stories exist as dormant narratives waiting to be revealed.

Drawing inspiration from the studies of anthropologists, archeologists and naturalists, the project explores the possibilities of history-writing, cultural knowledge transmission, and memory reclamation. The Iancura research residency program is rooted in the ethos of unearthing narratives that have not been validated, interpreted, or recorded by conventional history. It places a particular emphasis on fostering cross-cultural connections and promoting dialogue with local organizations, communities, and scholars within the Aeolian territory. Through spatial inquiry and artistic practices, the residency investigates untold and unwritten stories, giving voice to silenced perspectives while enriching the collective understanding of cultural heritage.

Iancura is supported by Culture Moves Europe, funded by the Creative Europe program and implemented by the Goethe-Institut.

Additional support for Mia Tamme by Cultural Endowmnet of Estonia.
